TILDEN REGIONAL PARK & NATURE AREA
Charles Lee Tilden Regional & hints of the surrounding area. Berkeley’s beloved & enormous 2,079-acre park, tucked into the hills above the San Francisco bay. Also in the area of focus here is the attached nature area, a wilderness annex also under park administration.
Basswood & Baltic Birch, 23.8" × 10.2".
Topographic with 3mm contours spaced at 100ft of real elevation.
I wanted to try making a map much larger than my laser bed, using tiling and many complicated internal support struts. I learned a lot and Tilden was the result! 178 total pieces across seventeen elevation layers, forming one map. I tried to capture all named trails and points of interest within the park, including the Redwood Valley Railway, the two highest peaks in the park (Vollmer and Wildcat), the Tilden Little Farm, the golf course, the equestrian camp, and the Merry Go-Round. I also show the park’s major waterways, routing down Wildcat Canyon and through Lake Anza and Jewel Lake.
The overall map topography shows the Berkeley Hills with Wildcat Canyon and Tilden nestled within it. The park is of course represented by the lighter wood, with the engraved dark areas representing the adjacent cities of Berkeley, Oakland, and Orinda to the west; the East Bay Municipal District reservoir land to the east; and Wildcat Canyon Regional Park to the north.
This map is available and is one-of-a-kind. You can submit an inquiry on the commissions page if you would like the Tilden map for your own home or office.
