Tucson
A city, isolated in the desert, cradled by mountain ranges, and guarded by a bisected national park.
11’’ x 11’’ on rough plywood with padauk accents.

The first version of this city I did. I wanted to play with a vastly different nameplate design and also use some stains rather than doing laser texturing. The normal wood is a rough quality plywood and the nameplate is paduak.
The map is built to emphasize the passage of the Arizona National Scenic Trail (highlighted with larger dots than other trails), which rises from Rincon Valley through the Rincon Mountains past Mica Mountain, snakes through Redington Pass, climbs the Santa Catalina Mountains to almost summit Mt. Lemmon, then descends Oracle Ridge to the desert floor.
